Activities of LSM are focused on advancing the frontiers of power and energy conversion systems. The current projects at LSM cover aerodynamics performance of turbomachines, fluid-structure interaction, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) development, sensor and actuator development, turbine heat transfer and cooling, compression system stability and control, and hybrid optimization of power plants.
In research, the laboratory’s extensive facilities are complemented with advanced sensor technology and laser diagnostics to study unsteady aerodynamics, heat transfer and vibration related problems. Computational research is directed towards developing and utilizing numerical techniques to tackle time dependent, flexible and robust tools to handle complex geometries. In teaching, current understanding of technical subjects in power and energy conversion is offered in a series of courses, excursions, and a broad selection of semester and diploma projects.
